My family spent an April weekend at the Blue Heron Barn
My family spent an April weekend at the Blue Heron Barn, which is only 15 miles north of where we live. We were hoping for a getaway without the rigors of travel and received much, much more than we were expecting. The barn is located on a beautiful, secluded property with ponds, a winding stream, deer, wild turkeys and a well-kept grounds. We very much enjoyed the fully equipped kitchen. Since we love to cook, the excellent quality of the knives and cookware was greatly appreciated!
One day we grilled out in the backyard. The charcoal grill in that wooded setting with a nice, big deck was a refreshing refrain from our busy lives. The cold beer and thick, juicy steaks did not hurt either. We brought books to read but were happy to take advantage of the Direct TV, nice flatscreen, wireless internet and great sound system.
We took a long walk along a great trail accessed straight from the barn and also a great hike near Mt. Gretna which was just a 15 minute drive. The Innkeepers, Dr. John and his wife Becky were invisible save for the 1-2 times that we wanted to ask them for directions or advice on where to hike. They are very nice and charming anyways.
In all, we had a fantastic time and did so much in 2 days! We would not hesitate to go back for another relaxing, fun getaway in the woods.
